Dear Mama,
Maybe today started before the sun came up. Maybe your eyes opened to the sound of little feet or a baby’s cry, and you haven’t stopped moving since. You’ve folded clothes no one will notice, prepared meals that may go untouched, cleaned up messes that will return in five minutes or less. You’ve listened, soothed, corrected, and sacrificed. Again. And maybe, just maybe, it all feels a little…unseen.
I want you to know something today: You are not invisible. Not to the God who made you. Not to the One who called you to this sacred work.
In Genesis 16, there’s a woman named Hagar. Alone, mistreated, and pregnant, she fled to the wilderness – probably afraid, angry, and unseen. But in that desolate place, the Lord met her. He didn’t just speak to her – He saw her. She responded by giving God a name: El Roi – “the God who sees me.”
And that same God sees you.
He sees you wiping noses while whispering prayers. He sees you holding back tears during another long night. He sees the selflessness, the exhaustion, the little victories, and the daily dying to self. He sees it all, and it matters to Him.
Motherhood is holy work, even when it feels hidden, The world may not clap for it. You may not get a raise or a trophy or even a full night’s sleep. But you are planting seeds in eternity. And there is no labor done in love that goes unnoticed by your Heavenly Father,
"God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people and continue to help them"
-Hebrews 6:10 (NIV)
So on this Mother’s Day, whether you’re celebrated with breakfast in bed or find yourself wiping up the crumbs afterward, know this:
You are deeply loved.
You are fully seen.
You are honored by the One who entrusted you with this calling.
Hold your head high today – not because you’ve done everything perfectly, but because you are faithfully showing up. That’s what matters. And that’s what lasts.
With love and understanding,
A fellow seen-and-loved mama at The Rooted Motherhood
